Borealis MIDI Generator

Borealis is one of MIDI Maker’s experimental palettes — its only pulse a void kick and dust that drift with the pads, no clock. Two sustained pad voices drift at different pattern lengths, one folding every two bars and one every four, so the curtains slide in and out of phase like light moving overhead.

What to listen for: Slow sheets of held chords drifting across each other at different speeds, so wherever they overlap the sound gently shimmers and beats.

Roll a borealis track

Borealis is included with the Pro and Studio plans; the free plan covers five genres. See pricing.

How the engine writes borealis

A slow stepwise line with an open pentatonic centre floats above, answered an octave down by an independent counter-melody, and the key changes section by section so each part of the track stands under a different colour of sky.

From a roll to your DAW

A roll defaults to 76 BPM (every preset and tempo is editable before and after generating) and plays back in the browser through the studio's own synths. When you like a take, export it as whole-track or per-instrument MIDI, or as WAV/MP3 audio — the drum part uses General MIDI numbering, so it lands correctly on any drum plugin. There are step-by-step import guides for Ableton Live, FL Studio and Logic Pro.
