Undertow is one of MIDI Maker’s experimental palettes — the whole ensemble submerged, kit included. The bass strides at the bottom, the chords are dark two- and three-note stacks just above it, and the single melody is a baritone line rather than a top line.
What to listen for: The whole band sits low and dark, with deep bass strides, murky held chords and a low, drifting melody breathing together like heavy water.
Undertow is included with the Pro and Studio plans; the free plan covers five genres. See pricing.
How the engine writes undertow
The harmony moves like a tide: four bars per chord, the opening chord held longest, at most two progressions in a track. Everything leans slightly behind the beat and the accents land on the downbeat and the and-of-three — one wave per bar. The kit is pressure and grain: a void kick on the downbeat and the and-of-three, granular noise that thickens and thins with the tide, no clock.
From a roll to your DAW
A roll defaults to 84 BPM (every preset and tempo is editable before and after generating) and plays back in the browser through the studio's own synths. When you like a take, export it as whole-track or per-instrument MIDI, or as WAV/MP3 audio — the drum part uses General MIDI numbering, so it lands correctly on any drum plugin. There are step-by-step import guides for Ableton Live, FL Studio and Logic Pro.
