How it works

Drop in an audio file — or record straight from your microphone — and a neural network transcribes it into notes. The tool uses Basic Pitch, Spotify's open-source pitch detection model, which handles polyphonic audio: chords, overlapping melodies, and most instruments, not just single hummed lines.

Everything runs locally in your browser. The model downloads once (under a megabyte) and your recording is processed on your own device — nothing is uploaded to any server.

Tips for better transcriptions

• Cleaner input gives cleaner MIDI — solo instruments transcribe better than full mixes.
• Avoid background noise and reverb-heavy recordings where possible.
• The MIDI file is written at 120 BPM with absolute note timings, so the performance timing is preserved exactly.
